We thought it would be useful to publish a blog entry with answers to questions we are often asked about our organic turmeric powder. We feel it is important for our customers to have as much information about our products as possible.
Is your turmeric organic? We only sell organic turmeric powder.
Are you organically certified? Yes. Our organic turmeric & and all of our other products are organically certified by the Soil Association. This means we buy only from organically certified farms and are subject to spot checks (by the Soil Association) which require us to prove that the exact amount of any product sold to the consumer can be traced back to product we import from those farms.
Is your turmeric tested for lead? Our suppliers test annually for heavy metal contamination. Since the FDA lead recall in America, we now test every batch for lead. We also test for a range of chemicals. We are happy to send you certificates of analysis, email address at the bottom of the page.
Does your turmeric contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms)? No. We only buy from organically certified farms. They are not permitted to use genetically modified organisms.
Does your turmeric contain EDC solvents? EDC solvents are used when extracting curcumin from turmeric to make curcumin supplements - and since this product is organic turmeric powder and not a curcumin extract, there are no solvents used at any point during growth & processing.
Is your turmeric irradiated? It is non-irradiated, which maintains the nutritional integrity of the product.
What are the ingredients? Our organic turmeric powder is 100% organic ground turmeric - nothing is added or removed during processing.
Where is your turmeric grown? It is grown on an organic farm in India.
What is curcumin? Curcumin is the active ingredient within turmeric that has many scientifically proven health benefits.
How much curcumin does your turmeric contain? Minimum 3% curcumin, which is the average amount for organic turmeric powder.
Should I take a curcumin extract? Curumin works with other parts of the turmeric, so we think it is better to consume it in its natural form as a whole food. However, some people have successful results with a curcumin extract.
Can turmeric cure my health problems? We are not doctors so we do not give out medical advice. However, lots of reserach/studies have been completed on turmeric/curcumin and it would appear that it can have a positive effect on the body and heal many health conditions. Our customers have given us a lot of positive feedback.
What is golden paste? Golden paste is a combination of four ingredients: turmeric, black peppercorns, a healthy fat, and water, which when combined and heated, are said to have many health benefits. Turmeric is fat soluble, so adding a healthy fat makes it easier for the body to absorb. The black peppercorns enhance the bioavailibility of curcumin, see above for more on curcumin.
