How To Make Golden Paste and Optimise Turmeric Absorption18 April 2017 | Admin
Golden paste (also known as turmeric paste) is a turmeric-based paste that maximises turmeric's much-studied capacity to heal the body. Turmeric is a proven anti-inflammatory (which is said to be the root of disease) and has shown great potential in treating many conditions and diseases. Curcumin is the active compound within turmeric that holds the key to many of its health benefits. However, it can be challenging to obtain these health benefits as a lot of the curcumin that is ingested gets metabolised before the body absorbs it. Black pepper and healthy oils/fats are said to increase the bioavailability of curcumin and increase absorption. So, turmeric works better when combined with other foods - which is where the golden paste comes in. Golden paste is easy to make and consists of four ingredients: turmeric, black pepper, a healthy fat/oil, and water.
Ingredients:
1) 60g (125mls) turmeric powder: this is the main ingredient, and it forms the bulk of the paste. Click here to buy our organic turmeric.
2) 70mls Oil: turmeric is oil-soluble, so oil is needed to dissolve it in the stomach and allow complete absorption. Best to use: virgin/extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed/raw/unrefined coconut oil or flaxseed oil.
3) 2-3 teaspoons ground black pepper: black peppercorns contain an enzyme called piperine, which enhances turmeric absorption in the digestive tract. Click here to buy organic peppercorns
4) 1 cup of water (250ml)
Method: Bring the turmeric and water to the boil, then lower the heat and simmer until you have a thick paste. This should take about ten minutes. You may need to add more water.
Add the ground black pepper and oil at the end of cooking once the water and turmeric mixture has cooled down to just warm. Stir well.
Start with a small amount - 1/4 teaspoon 2-3 times a day. Always listen to your body.
The paste should last for two weeks in the fridge. Use the paste as a base for turmeric latte, turmeric tea, or add it to water, smoothies, salad dressings, rice, or use as a condiment. This recipe can be used for humans and animals (horses and dogs). We know we have many customers who use golden paste with successful results.
Everything in this recipe is a natural ingredient, but care should always be taken when making any changes to your diet. It is always essential to have support while starting on your turmeric journey. Consult the advice of a health professional or nutritionist.
