We are proud to be launching our new range of organic herbs: dried basil, dried oregano, dried thyme, dried rosemary, dried sage, dried parsley, dried marjoram and dried mixed herbs. They are organic, GMO-free, gluten-free, non-irradiated as well as being strong and aromatic.
It's actually amazing how versatile and generally underused most herbs are. Like spices, they can transform an infinite number of foods and recipes. Not to mention they are fantastic for your health; traditional medicine practices such as Ayurveda have been using them for centuries. Here's a little bit of info about our first five herbs, with more to come:
Organic Basil (Ocimum Basilicum): Everyone knows basil as a fantastic addition to many Mediterranean dishes. It's known as the "king of herbs" or the "royal herb". I think the reason basil is so popular is that it's simply really quite delicious!
Goes well with tomato sauces, lamb, fish, eggs, tossed salad, cheese, potatoes, pasta, peas, and squash.
Organic Oregano (Origanum Vulgare): Its name means "mountain joy" and the ancient Greeks and Romans revered oregano as a symbol of happiness. It's often used therapeutically in oil form.
Goes well with tomato sauces, pork, pizza, vegetables, fish, salads, and chili.
Organic Thyme (Thymus Vulgaris): Thyme is one of the most versatile herbs, with a variety of cultivars and flavours. It grows quickly in sunny conditions but can also withstand cold winters.
Goes well with vegetable soups, stuffing, beef, pork, fish, eggs, and cheese.
Organic Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officialis): In Latin, rosemary means "dew of the sea" - appropriate since it is indigenous to the Mediterranean. It's often referred to as the "wonder herb".
Goes well with potatoes, cauliflower, fish, and poultry stuffing
Organic Mixed Herbs: StayFreshOrganics' mixed herbs are a blend of four key herbs: organic thyme, organic basil, organic marjoram and organic rosemary.
Goes well with sauces, soups, stews, stuffing, bread, marinades, butter, pizza toppings, salads, stocks, dressings, and even some puddings! The list is endless!
Organic Sage (Salvia Officinalis): Sage has one of the longest histories of any culinary or medicinal herb. Sage is often combined with other herbs such as thyme, rosemary, basil, mint, and oregano.
Goes well with: chicken, lamb, pork, potato, vegetables, and soups
Organic Marjoram (Origanum Majorana): From the same family as oregano, the two are often confused! Marjoram is actually milder than oregano. Like sage, you often see marjoram called for in combination with other herbs and spices such oregano, basil, and parsley.
Goes well with: meats, vegetables, marinades, and soups
Organic Parsley (Petroselinum): Parsley is widely used in European, Middle Eastern, and American cooking; no kitchen should be without a good supply of this multi-purpose herb!
Goes well with fish, meat, add to dressings, sauces, and marinades.
