Product Spotlight: Organic Triphala Powder
Earlier in the year, we expanded our product line with a range of Ayurvedic medicinal herbs. You may have seen our recent blog post on ashwagandha - in this post we're going to focus on Triphala. So what is Triphala, and how can it help you?
Triphala is a traditional herbal formulation made from the dried powder of three different fruits. It has been used for over 2000 years and is a staple in Ayurvedic medicine. In India, it's considered the most excellent and most versatile of herbal formulations. Due to its many purported health benefits, Triphala has become increasingly popular around the world.
Three Fruits:
Triphala is a polyherbal medicine, meaning it consists of several different medicinal herbs. Certain herbal combinations result in extra therapeutic effectiveness than one component taken alone. Triphala contains the following three fruits, native to India:
Embilica officinalis - also known as amla or Indian gooseberry.
Terminalia bellirica - Known as bibhitaki in Ayurvedic medicine. Many people call it bedda or baheda.
Terminalia chebula - called haritaki in Sanskrit - is a nut-like fruit picked when it is still yellow and ripening.
Health benefits:
Triphala is used as a multi-purpose treatment but is most often used to aid digestive health. See the study here.
It's known to reduce toxicity levels within the body by stimulating the liver and kidneys. See the study here.
It can help symptoms ranging from stomach ailments to dental cavities. It's also known to be an anti-inflammatory, promote longevity and the overall health of the body. See the study here.
How To Use:
You can consume triphala as a tea. Add 1/2 a teaspoon to warm water and stir. Consume on an empty stomach in the evening before bed or first thing in the morning. You can also add triphala to smoothies, shakes and juices.
